Bearly Scene...Black Bear...

I believe I mentioned once that because I live in such a remote area I often get the "unexpected" visitors,( in reference to a snake I posted a photo of ), yesterday however right around dusk I had quite the unexpected visitor right at the steps leading off my front deck. I had just stepped inside with my dogs, got myself a cold soda, and was half reading the local newspaper when I heard my dog going crazy at the front door. I approached the door, expecting to find a person or perhaps a squirrel or stray cat, imagine my surprise to see a black bear approaching the deck! Just sauntering toward us like he had no worries! I saw that he was focused on a half eaten bowl of dog food still on my deck! I was shocked to put it mildly, especially realising I had just been out there less than 15 minutes earlier! Well in all of the chaos and excitement, I grabbed my camera, and attempted to get a picture of it! Needless to say I was too afraid to step outside to capture the moment, and I blew what would have been possibly the most exciting Kodak moment of my life! =[ Due to my trembling hands, bad lighting and the fact that I took it through a window screen I only managed to capture this pic which I titled "Bearly Scene"! I did however manage a decent photo of his tracks, after I was sure he had gone back to his rightful place in the mountains!

  1. OMG! That bear track is really scary looking.

Hey, what neck of the West Virginia woods are you in? I'm going to be visiting Ravenswood (a stone's throw from the Ohio River) later this month.

  3. Susan I am 103 miles from Ravenswood, but I know where it is because I've gone that route to visit my sister who lives in Ohio. I'm from around the Elkins, WV area, home to the Mountain State Forest Festival. I'm between there and the Snow Shoe Mountain ski resort, if you're familiar with that! It would be cool if we could hook up and do lunch or something. Congrats on your new grandson! He's adorable!
